After 35 Years

Channel 7 Current Situation

Since the start of this ministry with the very clear calling to Using the modern media to  "Win Souls for Christ, building His Kingdom and teach listeners to live a Christian lifestyle"  people were financially involved. No startup capital was ever available and funds were made available by supporters as the ministry grew.

Today, after 35 years,  Channel 7 reaches out to approximately 75% of the population of Namibia.

Channel 7 has 33 FM Radio Transmitters throughout Namibia. All transmitters are funded by the listeners of that area.

Channel 7 has a building that houses the offices and 5 studios.

Two satellite studios, one in Oshakati in the North of the country and one at the coastal town of Swakopmund.

A Total number of 25 staff is employed by Channel 7. Some are permanent employees, others on term contracts and some others on a freelance basis.

Channel 7 Funding

Channel 7  Funding

Channel 7 has two main sources of income:

Selling of airtime

Selling of airtime to businesses and individuals for advertising purposes.

This consists of direct advertising spots, promotional interviews and sponsorship of identified program slots.

Although the selling of airtime is very similar to any other radio station, there is one big difference. Because of Channel 7's Christian principles do we not advertise certain items like alcohol, tobacco, gambling etc.  Channel 7 do not broadcast any advertising on Sundays.

Donations

Donations that consist of once of contributions, regular debit orders and an annual donation campaign under the name "Radiothon"

"Radiothon" is a annual week at the end of July when groups of people, called Transmitter Committees organizes fundraisers at their towns. They are volunteers mostly from a group of listeners who originally took initiative in the raising of funds for a specific transmitter. They arrange a week long fundraiser at different towns throughout Namibia and this event gets broadcasted for the full week while the participant get airtime round the clock to motivate share the activities of their town and committee.

“TOGETHER WE  REACH THE GOAL"

Reason for call of support

Reason for this call for support from a wider audience of people sharing this vision:

  • A serious shortage in funds is limiting Channel 7’s ability to invest in expanding our circle of influence.Current income is used primarily to sustain day to day operations.

  • Due to faith based business model, financial survival remains a primary challenge.

  • Channel 7 urgently need to repair, replace and expand equipment and facilities.

  • In an ever increasing competitive environment, Channel 7 experiences serious financial challenges. In addition,Namibia is struggling with economic challenges due to a prolonged drought (3 consecutive years) and a threatening recession.

  • The opportunity is there to reach out to many more people from different platforms but the station needs a wider support base to be able to maintain the ministry and utilize a wider available reach.
